2023 Summer Intensive Faculty: Ethan Blakeney

Ethan Blakeney - Contemporary

Ethan grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania and began dancing through the Academy of Movement at the age of nine as a competition dancer. Over the next few years, he won several regional and national titles in both group and solo routines. Ethan was also featured in performances for multiple local venues, a half time routine for the Philadelphia 76ers and an opening number for Kidz Bop Live. Ethan left the Academy of Movement at the age of thirteen to train professionally at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet where his technique flourished. He was casted in ballet performances such as First Steps, Founder’s Series, Giselle and George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. Additional training includes Summer Programs with PATA, Joffrey Ballet, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, CPYB, The Boston Ballet and The Hollywood Summer Tour in Los Angeles, California.

At the age of sixteen, Ethan returned to his hometown studio to pursue a career in teaching and mold the minds of aspiring dancers. At only seventeen years old, he took a contemporary competition team to a first-place national title along with his own self-choreographed solo.

He has since taught ages 6 – 18 years of age in the styles of jazz, contemporary, ballet, technique and conditioning in recreational and competition classes. Ethan also teaches master classes at different studios throughout the tri-state area and is employed by Starstruck Dance Challenge in which he works backstage crew and teaches master classes at competition venues. Most recently, Ethan made Top Ten for Senior Male Best Dancers at The Dance Awards in Vegas. He was also recently awarded a National Best Solo Choreography Award and will be attending CLI Conservatory under the direction of Teddy Forance in Fall 2023.
